Corrections Officer Arrested And Jailed On Domestic Violence Charges, Man Shot Near Housing Community

News / Virgin Islands / December 10, 2015

ST. CROIX — Corrections Officer Jonathan Santiago was arrested on Wednesday for third degree assault after an altercation with a woman left visible injuries about the female victim’s body, according to Kevin Jackson, VIPD’s public information officer.

Santiago, 33, of Hannah’s Rest, was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections today pending his advise of rights hearing, after failing to make bail of $100,000. Police did not provide a mugshot of Santiago.

Elsewhere here, reports of shots being fired in the area of the Walter I.M. Hodge Housing Community on Wednesday at about 8:03 p.m., initially produced a parked vehicle that sustained a bullet hole, shattered glass and several shell casings, however no victim(s) or witness (es) were located.

The 911 emergency call center later received notification from the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center of a male individual seeking treatment for a gunshot wound, who had been transported to the medical facility by a private vehicle.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-(TIPS) 8477 or go to www.crimestoppersusvi.org.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
