Update 8:24 a.m. — VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson, through an updated press release issued this morning, said last evening’s press release “was inadvertently omitted that officers observed and stopped a young man riding a bicycle and took him to the Newton Substation in Frederiksted. When making a check of his backpack, a loaded .22 caliber magazine was discovered inside of it. The minor stated that he had found the magazine along the beach, so he picked it up.”
ORIGINAL STORY: ST. CROIX — A 17-year-old man was arrested Thursday for shooting at a home and car of someone he says owes him money, using a .22 caliber rifle that he stole, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced late Thursday.
According to Mr. Jackson, at about 2:17 p.m. yesterday, the 911 emergency call center received notification of gunfire being discharged in the area of Sprat Hall. Arriving on the scene, responding officers stopped a young man who was riding a bicycle, and noticed the clip of a .22 caliber rifle in his possession. A K-9 Unit was summoned and upon searching, found the gun, which the suspect had stolen.
The young man admitted that he shot at the home and car of someone who he says owes him money.
He was later charged with grand larceny, possession of an unlicensed firearm and the discharging of gunfire, according to Mr. Jackson.
