ST. CROIX — Commissioner of Education Sharon Ann McCollum, joined by Assistant Commissioner Charmaine Hobson-Johnson, Acting St. Croix Superintendent of Schools Vaughn Hewitt, and Deputy Superintendent Faith Dane George on Wednesday, December 9, met with students from St. Croix Educational Complex and St. Croix Central High School in an effort to resolve issues many youth on St. Croix have been facing, a press release the Department of Education issued on Thursday makes known.
The parties tackled adverse situations threatening students’ safety, and their educational and social progress. The Education team intently listened to the students and offered solutions to their concerns. In an effort to foster a more harmonious and peaceful relationship, students resolved for both school populations to work together to find solutions to common problem areas within the school campuses as well as in the community.
“It was an excellent meeting with lots of ideas for improving relations at school campuses and in the community,” said Acting St. Croix Superintendent Hewitt. “The students were very attentive and amenable to suggestions offered for improvement by the educational team.”
St. Croix Central High Principal Janasee Sinclair and St. Croix Educational Complex Principal Genitta Richards were in attendance and contributed to the discussions.
