Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / December 31, 2015

ST. CROIX — VIPD officers are investigating a home invasion incident that ended with the suspect being chased out of the home by his own gun, according to a press release VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson issued today.

According to Mr. Jackson, on Wednesday at about 8:30 p.m., the 911 emergency call center received a report of a home invasion that occurred in Estate Mt. Pleasant.

Responding officers arrived at the specified location and met with the owner of the residence, who stated that he was in the restroom when he heard an unusual noise and stepped out of the room to investigate the possible situation. The victim said he was then confronted by a Hispanic male, garbed in camouflage, a mask covering his face, armed with a gun and demanding money.

A struggle ensued and the victim was able to take possession of the suspect’s gun. The victim fired a shot at the suspect who then fled the scene on foot, the release states. The home owner was left unscathed during the incident.

Police are asking anyone with information concerning this incident to phone 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477.
