VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson, and Sakeeda Freeman, the force’s media specialist, announced via press releases issued yesterday several arrests related to gun possession and one connected to a domestic violence matter.
According to Ms. Freeman, on Friday, January 8, Vlaugn Edwards, 33, of Savan and Shamoi Charleswell, 22, of Bolongo — both locations in St. Thomas — were arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Edwards was arrested after he was found in possession of an unlicensed 40 caliber Smith and Wesson and a magazine containing 9 rounds. Charleswell was observed reaching for his weapon under his shirt and then throwing the weapon approximately 6 feet away from his body.
Unable to make bail of $25,000 each, both men were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending their advise-of-rights hearing.
Meanwhile on Saturday, January 9, at 5:34 a.m., Roy J. Degale, 34, of Little Princess, St. Croix was arrested and charged with possession of an unauthorized firearm. Degale was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing after failing to make bail of $25,000.
And also on Saturday, 32-year-old Leslieann Yarwood of Estate Pearl, St. Croix, was arrested and charged at 11:10 a.m. with second degree burglary.
According to Mr. Jackson, Yarwood was arrested in connection with an incident that occurred at 10:37 a.m. that day where she entered the residence of her former boyfriend located in Estate Strawberry without his permission.
No bail was set for Yarwood and she was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advise-of-rights hearing.
