ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas man was arrested on Monday after he was spotted wearing stolen jewelry belonging to a former acquaintance, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.
Mr. Dratte said the victim, who resides in Estate Frydenhoj, on January 22 filed a police report making known that 15 pieces of jewelry valued at $9,000 were stolen from her residence. At the time, she told police that she suspected a former acquaintance had stolen the items. However, with no evidence to backup her claim, police did not make an arrest.
But on Monday, there was a breakthrough: the victim said while she was ordering some food at the Virgin Haven Bar and Restaurant, she spotted the the former acquaintance wearing some of the jewelry. She said she immediately called 911 to report the sighting.
Officers responded and brought the suspect, 43-year-old Aaron Corsic, to the V.I.P.D.’s Adam Command for questioning. There, the jewelry was confirmed to be the items stolen from the victim’s residence in January.
Mr. Corsic was arrested and charged with grand larceny and stolen property. Unable to make bail of $25,000, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
