Woman Stabbed Multiple Times At St. Croix Strip Club; Suspects Apprehended

Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / January 19, 2016

ST. CROIX — A woman was stabbed multiple times at the Playaz Club, a strip club located in the Diamond Crest Mall in Sunny Isle, VIPD Public Information Officer Sakeeda Freeman announced via press release late Monday.

According to Ms. Freeman, on Monday at about 2:19 a.m., officers were dispatched by the 911 emergency call center to a disturbance at the strip club. A secondary notification was received, stating that the victim of a stabbing that occurred at the striptease nightclub was receiving treatment at the Juan F. Luis Hospital’s emergency room.

According to the release, officers met with the 27-year-old female victim at the medical facility, who stated that she and a group of friends were at the club, when one of the suspects began offering the women drinks. The group of women declined, but the suspect began offering them drinks individually.

The release added that the suspect and victim became embroiled in a confrontation, at which point he brandished a knife and began swiping wildly at the victm, wounding her several times with the blade. The group of women then attempted to leave the premises; but were advised against doing so as the suspect was seen outside discharging gunfire. The suspect, accompanied by another male, eventually left the area and the women hurriedly transported their wounded friend to the hospital.

A description of the suspects was given to the officers and moments later, the two men were spotted at the Gateway Service Station in Peter’s Rest and were later positively identified as the pair from the Playaz Club.

Markel Joseph, 18, of LaGrande Princesse was arrested and charged with third degree assault for the stabbing and discharging of gunfire, while his brother, Darwin Williams Jr., 22, of Estate Glynn was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.

Unable to make bail of $25,000, both men were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending their advise-of-rights hearing.
