Virgin Islands Pageantry And 4 Her Inc. Giving One Lucky Senior Chance To Win ‘Magical’ Prom Experience

Entertainment / Lifestyle / News / Virgin Islands / January 29, 2016

ST. THOMAS — Local organization 4 Her Inc., in partnership with Virgin Islands Pageantry, announced via press release this afternoon that applications for the 2016 “Belle of the Ball: The Glass Slipper Project” — which gives one lucky high school senior the chance to win an exceptional prom experience — are now available.

This year’s event will be the second year that the two organizations will create what they deem a “magical” prom experience for a lucky young lady on St.Thomas.

Last Year, Aniska Tonge, 4 Her Foundation founder and Taiesa Lashley, founder of Virgin Islands Pageantry, combined their efforts together on “Project Glass Slipper” to create an exceptional prom experience for two lucky high school seniors. Nykesha Culpepper and Chanester Crawford were ultimately selected as “belles of the ball”.

Ms. Tonge arrived on St.Thomas with the prom dresses, shoes and accessories on Thursday, June 28, 2015. When Ms. Culpepper and Ms. Crawford saw their prom dresses for the first time, they were delighted that they fit perfectly, according to the release.

On Friday June 29, 2015 Ms. Culpepper and Ms. Crawford met up by Kishma Faulkner, where they were treated to a complimentary manicure and polished feet.

On prom night, May 30th 2015, the chosen ladies checked into Bolongo Bay. They were excited as they were greeted with signs emblazoned with their names welcoming them to the resort. Once in their room, they were pampered and began prepping for their magical night, with makeup done by Johanna of Makeup by Jojo, and hair styled by Tina Chestnut. Their moms were also present and enjoyed seeing their daughters’ transformation.

Upon their departure to the evening’s prom event, the ladies had professional photos taken by Chalaine Barry-Wade of Gemini Photography. Mrs. Barry-Wade captured every moment of the prom-pampering session and their final look, the release added.

The “belles” were then whisked away (along with their dates) in a limousine provided by Presidential Limousine Services. This was coordinated by Perry Trotman. Mrs. Barry-Wade was also there to capture the ladies entry into their prom and to capture photos on location.

4Her Inc. and VI Pageantry say they hope to recreate this experience for one lucky student this year.

Requirements are:

  • Must be a 12th grade female student on St.Thomas
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA
  • Must submit the application before the deadline of March 31st.
  • Students can email [email protected] for an application.
  • The 2016 Belle of the Ball will be announced on April 30th, 2016.
