ST. THOMAS — Division of Personnel Director Milton Potter said via a press release issued late Friday that the public should be able to access the expanded list of government job vacancies on D.O.P.’s website by Monday.
The announcement comes on the heels of an inundation of requests by interested individuals following a Consortium article about the over 800 funded vacancies that Governor Kenneth Mapp said were available during his State of the Territory Address. Residents were frustrated when it became apparent that D.O.P.’s website lacked most of the job listings. Personnel later issued a statement blaming the absence of the listings on vast amounts of data that needed to be sorted.
“Personnel staff experienced various technical difficulties this week while trying to upload an increased volume of information related to the number of new job listings,” reads the release.
Mr. Potter said the initial emphasis will be on filling teaching and law enforcement jobs.
“We will focus earliest on filling vacancies at the Police and Education departments, as well as the Corrections Bureau,” he said. “However, in the next few days we will also be posting listings for job openings in Human Services, Public Works, Health and the Bureau of Internal Revenue.”
Mr. Potter indicated that some of the over 800 jobs, funded through the 2015-16 budget, require updates before they can be posted. “The public will see new additions to the job listings on a regular basis over the next few weeks as this information is finalized,” he said.
The director said that the application process can be completed online at www.dopusvi.org or those interested may visit the division’s offices.
