ST. THOMAS — District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez today sentenced Dwayne Fahie, 26, to 17 months in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, United States Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced via press release. Judge Gomez also sentenced Mr. Fahie to serve three years of supervised release, perform 300 hours of community service and pay a $100 special assessment.
On August 21, 2015, Mr. Fahie pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to the plea agreement filed with the court, on April 24, 2015, Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) officers conducted a traffic stop for illegal tint on a vehicle in which Mr. Fahie was the passenger. During the traffic stop, Mr. Fahie fled from the car, fell and exposed the handle of a firearm. The officers recovered a Glock 9MM firearm. Mr. Fahie is a convicted felon and was not authorized to possess a firearm. He was convicted of reckless endangerment, a felony, in 2013 in the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the VIPD. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
