V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced the following arrests and incident on St. Thomas from March 1-3.
Tuesday March 1, at 10:48pm, Steven Hillebrand, 44 of an unknown address was arrested and charged with disobeying a lawful order and resisting an arrest after he was identified as the individual causing a hazard to citizens in Emancipation Garden occupying the sidewalk. Mr. Hillebrand also resisted arrest by pulling away from officers after he was placed under arrest.
After failing to make bail of $500, Mr. Hillebrand was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
Thursday March 3, at 10:00pm, officers traveled to the Roy Lester Schneider Medical Center in response to a shooting victim. The victim said he was leaving a party at roughly 9:00 p.m. at the Paul M. Pearson Garden Housing Community, when he heard the sound of a single gunshot. Shortly after, he realized that his right calf felt numb and that he’d sustained a single gunshot wound to his right calf.
This incident is still under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
Thursday March 3, at 1:45pm, Brett Kimelman, 44 of El Tuque, Puerto Rico was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property pursuant to an arrest warrant issued by the magistrate of the Superior Court for a burglary that took place at Saga Haven Marina in March, 2013.
Unable to make bail of $1,000, Mr. Kimelman was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
