ST. CROIX — The Department of Human Services is celebrating Seniors Month in a big way, and kicked off a month-long set of events with a parade and ceremony in Christiansted on Saturday, which saw different groups participating with multiple performances during the parade, and at the event’s final location of Fort Christiansvaern.
“This is just our appreciation and giving back in recognition of the seniors in our community,” D.H.S. Commissioner Vivian Ebbesen-Fludd told The Consortium on Saturday. She reiterated that the effort was a big “thank you” to seniors who have served the community, adding that refreshments were prepared and would be served at the fort.
The parade, the brainchild of Mrs. Ebbesen-Fludd, was the first annual affair. She said a similar event was planned last year but rain quelled those plans.
