ST. CROIX — On Friday, June 3, the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (C.F.V.I) will present the Jerry Silverberg Trumpet Award to Keshawn Hardy, above, a sophomore at St. Croix Educational Complex High School and a member of the 2016-2017 VI Youth Ensemble, a press release C.F.V.I. recently issued has made known.
According to the release, the event unfolds at “An Evening of Music at the Old Stone Farmhouse” on St. Thomas at 6:30 p.m., a free community concert series sponsored by the United Jazz Foundation. Mr. Hardy will perform on a beautifully refurbished trumpet that has been played by Jerry Silverberg, beginning in his days as a student at Bucknell University. The student will also receive a $2,500 scholarship from Jaci and Jerry Silverberg, to attend the Summer Music Program on the St. Thomas campus of the University of the Virgin Islands.
The Jerry Silverberg Trumpet Award is a unique opportunity that will allow Mr. Hardy to pursue his passion as a musician, and to honor Jerry’s dedication to music over the past 80 years, the release says. Mr. Silverberg was a successful attorney, philanthropist and long-term resident of the Virgin Islands. He began playing the trumpet at a young age and continued playing throughout high school and college.
