Man Shot, Minor Grazed Near Basketball Court In St. Thomas

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / May 31, 2016

ST. THOMAS — A man was shot in his left palm and a 16-year-old minor was grazed by a bullet in his left forearm and stomach area, near the Winston Raymo Basketball Court in the wee hours of Sunday morning, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced the same day.

Both men were treated for their wounds at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital and released, Ms. Freeman said.

According to the police report, Ajaye Thompson, 20, and the minor, stated that they were near the basketball court, suddenly heard gunshots ring out and realized following the shooting that they had been shot. They were not, however, able to say who shot them.

The V.I.P.D.’s forensic detectives took photographs of their injuries and processed the scene for additional evidence, according to Ms. Freeman.

Police are asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211, at extensions 5611. You can also call 911, Crime Stoppers VI, the commissioner’s office at (340) 715-5506 and the police chief’s office at (340)-5548.
