Personnel at the Randolph Harley Power Plant are continuing efforts to restore electrical service in the St. Thomas St. John district following heavy showers in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, W.A.P.A. announced today. The semiautonomous entity said crews are currently working to restart the three generating units needed to provide enough capacity to bring all feeders back on line as quickly and as safely as possible.
During restoration, priority will be given to the hospital, schools, business district and then residential areas, according to W.A.P.A.
Earlier today, W.A.P.A. said it was experiencing a district-wide electrical service interruption affecting the aforementioned islands, as well as Water Island. The outage occurred after the Randolph Harley Power Plant lost generation capacity just after 4 a.m. today.
Meanwhile in St. Croix, W.AP.A. says as a result of lightning strikes and inclement weather overnight, several pocket areas on the Big Island are experiencing electric service interruptions. The areas include Estates Two Williams and Whim, Little La Grange, Stoney Ground, Morning Start and Mount Washington.
Crews are being dispatched to the areas to address the cause of the service interruptions, according to W.A.P.A.
