SUV Overturns On Highway; Occupants Unharmed

News / Virgin Islands / July 12, 2016

ST. CROIX — An SUV overturned on the Melvin Evans Highway heading east right after the Sunny Isle Baptiste Church. The incident occurred at or around 6:00 p.m. today.

The vehicle, above, was badly damaged by the accident, with one of its front tires coming off the axle. The front glass was also broken, and the vehicle, heading west, was facing east following the crash.

The occupants — two young females, according to two persons on the scene — were unharmed. Yet it remained unclear what had caused the vehicle to flip, since it was not struck by another moving vehicle.

At least two law enforcement vehicles were on location by the time a Consortium reporter arrived on the scene, and officers could be scene investigating the matter.

Residents concerned about the occupants’ safety parked their vehicles and checked on them. Others who didn’t stop slowed their vehicles to a crawl, curious as to what had taken place.
