ST. THOMAS — A man who police say was wanted for embezzlement and obtaining money under false pretense, has turned himself in, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced today.
Tres Abraham, above, age 37, called the Economic Crime Unit to turn himself into the Virgin Islands Police Department, Ms. Freeman said. Mr. Abraham was present at the Richard Callwood Command and an arrest warrant was executed at approximately 10:00 a.m. today.
The suspect was charged with embezzlement, drawing/delivering worthless checks, obtaining money by false pretense, and grand larceny. Mr. Abraham claimed to be an import car dealer and obtained money from several individuals to purchase vehicles from the mainland. But he failed to deliver any of the vehicles and kept the money for personal use, according to Ms. Freeman.
Mr. Abraham also used a closed checking account, which he claims was used to return deposits to individuals that paid him to purchase vehicles.
After failing to make bail of $100,000, Mr. Abraham was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
