ST. THOMAS — A man who fled this island where he was wanted on first degree murder charges, was arrested after being shot in Tortola and transported to the territory for treatment, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman made known on Tuesday.
According to Ms. Freeman, Tahira Charles, above, age 32, was arrested on Monday pursuant to a Superior Court arrest warrant, after Mr. Charles arrived in St. Thomas to receive medical treatment for injuries sustained during a shooting incident he was involved in that took place in Tortola.
Mr. Charles was wanted in connection with the homicide that occurred in the area of First Stop Gas Station in Estate Thomas on Saturday, June 25 at about 11:03 p.m.
Police had been dispatched to the area and upon arrival to the scene, met an unresponsive black male, who had been shot multiple times about the body and succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The homicide victim was identified as 22-year-old Caseam Daniel.
Bail for Mr. Charles remained undetermined until his initial hearing, according to Ms. Freeman. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
This arrest was made by the officers from the Homicide Task Force and Criminal Investigation Bureau, according to Ms. Freeman.
