Mechanical Issues With W.M.A.’s Waste Collection Truck Caused Garbage Pickup Delays

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / September 7, 2016

ST. THOMAS — The VI Waste Management Authority on Tuesday advised St. Thomas residents that due to a mechanical issue with the authority’s solid waste collection truck, waste collection was delayed in the Hospital Ground, Paul M. Pearson Garden, Oswald Harris Court, Estate Thomas and Contant areas.

According to the release, W.M.A.’s collection truck is now back in service, and on Tuesday the Solid Waste staff along with its contractors worked extended hours to address the collection backlog as quickly as possible. Once the collection backlog is fully addressed, W.M.A. will resume its regular daily service of in-house collection sites.

Each public bin is pulled at least once daily as a part of the authority’s daily service schedule, W.M.A. said. House-to-house or curbside collection is conducted once weekly according to collection zones.

Waste Management apologized for any inconvenience.
