ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority advised St. Croix Solid Waste haulers and residents on Wednesday that the St. Croix Transfer Station will be closed on Thursday due to a backlog of waste at the facility. The transfer station will resume and observe normal operating hours on Friday.
According to W.M.A., on Wednesday, a skeleton crew at the transfer station was unable to process, bale and wrap all incoming waste at the facility. The authority’s management team met with the contractor, Sanitas Partners, and it was decided that all waste collected on Wednesday would be processed on Thursday prior to the receipt of additional waste.
W.M.A. is asking residents to use existing bin sites for waste disposal and haulers are advised that the facility will not be accepting incoming waste on Thursday. The St. Croix Transfer Station will reopen with normal hours of operation on Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., according to W.M.A.
The authority apologized for any inconvenience. For more information, contact the Office of Communications Management at 340-715-9145 or email [email protected].
