ST. THOMAS — A case that had gone cold for 11 years, which involved the homicide death of a male victim, turned hot today following the arrests of the crime’s two alleged perpetrators, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced on Thursday.
On June 22, 2005, the lifeless body of Egbert Stuart, a then-well-known business owner affectionately called “Manno”, named after his restaurant of the same name, was discovered in his residence, Heritage Hills Condos, according to Mr. Dratte. Mr. Stuart had sustained multiple stab wounds to his body and a large kitchen knife was impaled in his neck.
Today, a man named Jacques Cajuste, a national of Haiti and the alleged former lover of Mr. Stuart’s wife, Vivian Stuart, was arrested in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and charged for the stabbing death of Mr. Stuart by members of the Cold Case Squad and Investigation Bureau.
Also today, Mrs. Stuart, who is a national of Haiti as well, was arrested in St. Thomas by the Cold Case Squad and Investigation Bureau, and charged with first degree murder, four counts of aiding and abetting, assault in the first degree, assault in the third degree; and using a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence.
Mr. Cajuste is awaiting an extradition hearing and Ms. Stuart was taken to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advise-of-rights hearing. They were arrested based on arrest warrants issued under seal, by Judge Denise M. Francois of the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, Division of St. Thomas and St. John, according to Mr. Dratte.
The force’s investigation bureau is asking the community for its continued support in bringing perpetrators of crime to justice. You can call C.I.B. on St. Thomas at 340 774 2211, on St. Croix 340 778-2211, or Crime Stoppers VI at 1800 222 Tips.
