ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Police Department is investigating a case of animal cruelty that occurred on Tuesday in the Aureo Diaz Heights Housing Community, after a tenant, who had left her two dogs in her porch with no injuries before heading out her apartment, came back and met one dead and the other severely wounded.
That’s according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, who made known the incident via press release Monday afternoon.
According to Mr. Dratte, the tenant, who police did not name, had left her home for several hours only to return and find one of her dogs dead in a pool of blood, and the other severely wounded with its forehead sliced open.
Mr. Dratte said police officers conducted a sweep of the area with negative findings.
The case was referred to the V.I.P.D.’s Animal Neglect Cruelty Investigation Unit (A.N.C.I.U.) for further investigative work.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact A.N.C.I.U. at 340 712 6097, or 340-778-2211 on St Croix. In St. Thomas, call 340 774 2211, or call Crime Stoppers VI at 1800 222 Tips or 911
