ST. THOMAS — Murder suspect K’moi Corraspe, above, is back in the U.S. Virgin Islands following an extradition request executed by Governor Kenneth Mapp in July for his return. He will face first degree murder charges in connection with the December 10, 2015 murder of Kadeem O. John on this island, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced via press release late Tuesday.
Mr. Corraspe was being held without bail in New York State after a plain-clothes police detail stopped him with two females after entering a building with a clearly posted “No Trespassing” sign.
After running background checks on all three individuals, the White Plains police arrested Mr. Corraspe on an outstanding warrant for first degree murder.
On Tuesday, the 22-year-old was placed under arrest pursuant to a warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands. Mr. Corraspe was charged with first degree murder, and was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
In July, Mr. Mapp, through the Attorney General’s Office, presented the extradition request to the governor of the State of New York. The joint effort was a result of real-time reporting of crime and suspect data to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system, according to Government House.
The V.I.P.D. says it continues to implement further use of technology in both its crime prevention and apprehension efforts. NCIC is a computerize database of documented criminal justice information available to virtually every law enforcement agency nationwide 24 hours a day.
The V.I.P.D. is asking for help in solving cases, with Police Commissioner Delroy Richards stating that the force will continue to seek out criminals, no matter how old the case. Therefore, the force is asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of crime perpetrators to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024 / 712-6037, 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
