ST. CROIX — A traffic stop has led to the arrest of four individuals on Wednesday afternoon, who refused to claim ownership of a firearm police found in the vehicle the individuals were traveling in, a press release V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte issued late Wednesday has made known.
According to Mr. Dratte, on Wednesday at about 2:40 p.m., a patrol officer observed a silver sedan driving straight across the intersection at Melvin Evans Highway and Hope Road in a northern direction towards Home Depot. The officer then initiated a traffic stop on the road leading to Home Depot’s parking lot for failure to a follow a posted sign, and found out that the driver, Joshua Cepeda, also called “Mongo”, did not have a driver’s license.
While the officer was placing Mr. Cepeda under arrest, he requested other units after observing a firearm barrel protruding from under the front seat of the vehicle. None of the four occupants claimed ownership of the firearm, Mr. Dratte said, so they were all placed under arrest for unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The four men arrested yesterday include Mr. Cepeda, 22, of mid-Island, 27-year-old Niko Moore of Frederiksted, 25-year-old Jameel Neem Burke of Frederiksted, and 31-year-old Carl Nicholas Decicco of Mid-Island.
The weapon recovered was a Glock 22 .40 Caliber, according to police.
