ST. CROIX — The 2016-17 Crucian Christmas Festival recently received a theme, created by the St. Croix Festival Committee. Davidson Charlemagne, the committee’s president, also revealed to this publication the acts for December 30, as the overall festival package continues to take shape.
This year’s theme has been titled, “Honoring 100 Years of our Centennial Past, Embracing our Present and Future to Last,” according to Mr. Charlemagne.
Mr. Charlemagne was also able to confirm the performances for December 30, which will include local group KPI Band, Hartatack Band, another Virgin Islands group, and Small Axe Band out of St. Kitts.
While last year’s Festival Village was impressive, Mr. Charlemagne is promising a show unlike any other this year, with major Caribbean Soca and Reggae artists performing some of their greatest hits at the Village.
Fusion Band, Kylo and the Stylee Band and Burning Flames are the headliners for the opening night, according to Mr. Charlemagne. Others to perform during the roughly 10 days of festivities include Shurwayne Winchester out of Trinidad, Triple Kay out of Dominica, Olatunji out of Trinidad, and other major acts.
As for the the parades, January 6 will see St. Croix’s youngsters overtaking the streets of Frederiksted for the Children’s Parade, while the Adults Parade will command the town on January 7 (the Village closes on January 7 as well).
J’ouvert Morning starts at 5:00 a.m. on January 4, according to Mr. Charlemagne, followed by the food fair the same day at 12:30 p.m.
The Consortium will publish more dates and events as they become available.
