ST. THOMAS — The VI Waste Management Authority (W.M.A.) made known via press release on Thursday that the Bovoni Pump Station located at the entrance of the Bovoni Landfill has experienced a major pump failure. Inspection of the station by the authority’s wastewater crew revealed an electrical failure and burnt motors, according to the release.
In response to the pump’s electrical failure, W.M.A. said it has mobilized a replacement pump to place the station back into service. Installation of the temporary replacement pump will be completed by the end of Thursday, according to the release.
The Bovoni Wastewater Pump Station was commissioned in 2013; the equipment for the station is under warranty, W.M.A. says. The pumps will be replaced and further inspected to investigate the cause of the electrical failure.
Residents with impacted immune systems or respiratory conditions are asked to avoid the area until the repairs are completed. Waste Management apologized for any inconvenience that this may cause as we work to correct the problem.
