ST. CROIX — A attempt by two suspects to rob scrap metal business Emmanuel Scrap Metal was quashed by quick police work, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Dratte, at about 9:28 a.m. on Wednesday, a concerned citizen reported that approximately six shots were fired in the vicinity of V.I. Cargo, where two dark-skinned men wearing dark shirts were observed running to the rear of the building.
Following the report, officers observed two individuals fitting the concerned resident’s description of the suspects in the nearby vicinity of Quality Foods on the Hess Road. The suspects were subsequently detained and arrested.
The adult suspect was identified as Raja Caul, above; the minor’s identity was not released in accordance with Virgin Islands law.
Police recovered two firearms, a mask and cellphone from the suspects, according to Mr. Dratte. An eye witness in the vicinity of the scrap metal operation located adjacent to V.I. Cargo in Castle Coakley, identified the two males as the ones who had robbed the business of cash and a cellphone. Multiple shots were fired during the incident, according to police.
Mr. Caul was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advise-of-rights hearing. The minor was remanded to the Youth Rehabilitation Center, also awaiting his advise-of-rights hearing, according to Mr. Dratte.
