ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp has congratulated the winners of this year’s general election, as well as those who prevailed in mainland contests.
According to the Elections System of the Virgin Islands, the winners in yesterday’s senatorial race included the following in St. Croix: Kurt Vialet (D), Novelle E. Francis, Jr. (D), Alicia “Chucky” Hansen (Ind.), Sammuel Sanes (D), Positive T. A. Nelson (ICM), Nereida “Nellie” O’Reilly (D) and Neville James (D).
In St. Thomas, the winners were Marvin A. Blyden (D), Janette Millin Young (D), Tregenza A. Roach (Ind.), Jean A. Forde (D), Myron D. Jackson (D), Kevin A. Rodriguez (D), Dwayne DeGraff (Ind), with Brian A. Smith (D) taking the win for senator-at-large.
In statements made earlier this year, Mr. Mapp indicated that he was encouraged by the accomplishments the administration has been able to make in the territory due in great part to the common ground established with the 31st Legislature. “I want to thank all of those senators for their service to the people of the Virgin Islands,” the governor said.
“I would like to also extend best wishes to those that did not prevail this year and thank each candidate for your commitment to our community. I hope you will continue your pursuit of public service,” he added.
Mr. Mapp said he looked forward to a productive working relationship with the newly elected 32nd Legislature.
