Waste Management Commences Company Street Sewer Line Project; Road To Be Paved Following Completion

News / Virgin Islands / November 14, 2016

ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority announced on Sunday that work on the Company Street Sewer Line Replacement Manhole Rehabilitation project has begun. The great news according to W.M.A. is that business and traffic in Christiansted will not be impeded, as the work is being performed at nights — from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily. The job is expected to be completed by January 13, 2017.

Once the sewer line project is finished, the road will be repaved, according to the Department of Public Works.

The project commenced on Monday, November 8, at the intersection of Church Street (By Steeple Building) and Company Street, and ends at the entrance of the Christiansted Cemetery, according to the release. Marco St. Croix, Inc. has been awarded the contract. (W.M.A. did not reveal the sum the contract.)

The announcement comes following the Public Finance Authority’s approval on November 8 of $750,000 to fund the Company Street and St. Thomas Anna’s Retreat sewer line projects. The Company Street problem was identified while Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority employees were changing power lines, stalling a road project approved since November 2015.

The project’s scope of work includes:

1. Replacement of 1,573 linear feet of six-inch clay and concrete sewer pipes
2. Replacement of 810 linear feet of four-inch ductile sewer laterals
3. Rehabilitation of 15 manholes
4. Construction of one manhole

The release concluded by stating that the project represents the Mapp administration’s commitment to assist W.M.A. with improvements to the territory’s aged wastewater infrastructure.
