ST. CROIX — A woman told police on Monday that she was raped by a man following a gathering she held at her home the same day, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.
At approximately 1:10 p.m. Monday, the 911 emergency call center received a report of first-degree rape, which allegedly occurred in the Mutual Homes Housing Community in Estate Grove Place. The emergency call center was phoned by a friend of the victim, who, according to Mr. Dratte, saw the victim “distraught in her room.”
Upon arrival to the scene, officers made contact with the 26-year-old victim, who told police that following a gathering that was held at her home with several friends, she went inside her bedroom to take a nap. While napping, however, she said the suspect, who was not at the party, gained entry to her home and unexpectedly came on top of her and began raping her. She said she repeatedly told the individual to stop, according to Mr. Dratte.
The suspect, 35-year-old David Diaz, above, had left the home of the victim, but returned to the house while police was on the scene, according to the police report. He was immediately arrested and charged with first-degree rape, and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
According to Mr. Dratte, the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Homicide Task Force are actively moving on all cases, and are seeking the community’s assistance in bringing perpetrators to justice. The V.I.P.D is asking residents to call 911 or Crime Stoppers USVI, where your tip may land you a payday.
