ST. CROIX — As the Crucian Christmas Festival readies for main Village events beginning on December 29, which The Consortium will be livestreaming, the committee on Sunday honored its royal court, crowning its Festival Queen 2016-17 in a coronation ceremony at the Island Center for the Performing Arts, along with a festival princess, duchess and prince.
Turnout was low this year compared to past events because there was no queen competition; Elle Nielsen, above left — who displayed all the qualities fit for a festival queen yesterday — was crowned queen by default, as there was no one to compete against here. The show also included some great performances by local and foreign talent, the highlight of which was that of R&B singer, Mario, who sang three songs, including his ubiquitous hit, You Should Let Me Love You.
There was a princess competition, although there were only two competitors. The winner was Jaynae Davis, and the first runner-up Raynia Mason. Melodi De La Cruz was named duchess, and C’Jay A. Prevost prince.
Below, some video footage of Mario’s performance, and the princess show’s results announcement.
