VI Consortium To Livestream Village, J’ouvert And Parade Events Of The 2016-17 Crucian Christmas Festival

ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Consortium will be livestreaming all Crucian Christmas Festival village, j’ouvert and parade events directly from its Facebook platform and its website, the company announced early Tuesday. The announcement follows a long planned strategy to delve more into live video content, while keeping its foundation, written news, intact.

The agreement, a multiyear contract between VIC and the festival committee, will see The Consortium bringing professional livestream coverage that will be readily available not only to residents in the territory, but diasporas eager to enjoy activities back home. This year’s coverage comes ready with four hosts, namely Sacha Alexander, a music teacher at Elena Christian Junior High School and the founder of the Sweet Peppa Quelbe Band; Johnia Williams, an inviting personality and alluring beauty with many accomplishments under her belt; Kirk Rojas, also known as DJ Remedii, who serves in the V.I. National Guard and owns his own company, Remedii Productions, and Taiesa Lashley, the multifaceted, ubiquitous and well accomplished 29-year-old St. Thomian, who remains as relevant in the territory as she is at Walt Disney, Florida, where she’s employed as a catering and events manager.

The hosts say they are ready to entertain their audience of near 60,000 VIC Facebook followers, and also VIC users who rather enjoy content directly from the company’s website. Their coverage, emanating from what VIC is calling the “Elevate Lounge” at the village, will include live interviews with artists at the village, community interaction, and giveaways.

“It’s been a plan for a long time to provide our users with more live video products, and the agreement with the St. Croix Festival Committee is a good way to start,” said Ernice Gilbert, VIC’s founder and publisher. Mr. Gilbert, who has covered carnival events on all three islands — albeit through recorded video and written stories later posted on The Consortium’s Facebook platform and website — said the livestream is also a great opportunity to showcase St. Croix’s unique offerings, which he described as a melting pot of cultures coming together to form an authentic and inviting product.

“Now more than ever, the world needs to see us Virgin Islanders in our true form; I believe we are a loving and talented people with so much to offer,” he said. “What better way to introduce them to who we are other than a glorious display of culture?”

The Consortium’s coverage begins on December 29 and runs through January 8. The company’s festival team includes 15 individuals — from cameramen to our exceptional video editor, Morgan Richardson. Other team members include Cruselda Roberts and Rhea Scotland, who are working on coordination and other related efforts. The coverage will include no less than five cameras, giving viewers a front-seat view of the live events from multiple angles.
