ST. THOMAS — Police on Monday were able to apprehend a 20-year-old man suspected of assaulting a Caucasian female victim, as the victim’s husband and the establishment’s management took action to prevent him from escaping, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Wednesday.
According to Mr. Dratte, at about 9:07 p.m., patrol units from the Richard Callwood Command traveled to the Havensight area after a citizen reported a disturbance at Smoking Rooster Sports Bar. Investigation units then traveled to the area after being requested by the patrol units to assist in the matter.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers made contact with the female victim, who explained that she was sexually assaulted and violated while in the establishment. During the incident, the victim called out for her husband who was also at the establishment with her, along with friends, according to Mr. Dratte.
According to the victim, the suspect, a black male identified as Simon Hodge, attacked her and attempted to leave the establishment after the incident, but her husband and the facility’s management stopped him until 911 could send units to the area.
Mr. Hodge was charged with first-degree unauthorized sexual contact, and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections after failing to make bail of $10,000, according to Mr. Dratte.
