ST. CROIX — Gregory Christian and Colleen Clarke, coaches for St. Croix teams participating in CyberPatriot, the National Youth Cyber Education Program competition, are expressing confidence as their teams prepare to solve computer hacking problems during Round 3 of the contest.
Four teams of students from the St. Croix Educational Complex, St. Croix Central High and St. Joseph’s High School will compete in Round 3, the Regional-Category Semi-Final, at St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center’s (CTEC’s) Room J-104 on Friday, January 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, January 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in CTEC’s Room J-208. The teams successfully competed in Round 1 and 2 of the Airforce Association cyberspace competition in November and December.
Mr. Christian coaches three teams, the Platinum Coders, Tasmania Devils and the Terminators, while Ms. Clarke coaches an all-girls team, the Island Defenders. They are highly anticipating that their teams will be among the top scorers in the nation and earn an all-expenses paid trip to Baltimore, Md., for the National Finals, April 2 – 17, 2017.
CyberPatriot was conceived by the Air Force Association to steer students towards careers in cybersecurity and other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The Northrop Grumman Foundation is the Presenting Sponsor for CyberPatriot IX.
