BVI — Former President Barack Obama, freshly out of office, traveled with his wife to the British Virgin Islands for vacation, arriving at the territory’s T. B. Lettsome International Airport on Monday aboard Sir Richard Branson’s plane, and will stay at the billionaire’s Necker Island.
The news was reported by several international media outlets.
A photograph of the the couple, above, with their arms stretched around immigration officials and the local police commissioner appeared on social media after their quiet arrival. They were then taken to a waiting motorcade to be taken to a nearby boat to complete their journey to Branson’s private retreat.
The Obamas spent the weekend relaxing at the home of Spanish ambassador James Costos and his interior designer partner Michael Smith, after taking part in President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday, according to multiple reports.
Michelle Obama was earlier seen boarding Branson’s Falcon 900EX at Palm Springs International Airport on Monday. Her husband wasn’t seen boarding the flight but Tom Nolan, the airport’s executive director, later confirmed that the former president also departed Monday morning but it’s not clear whether the couple left together.
