Breaking News / Crime / News / Virgin Islands / January 24, 2017

ST. THOMAS — A string of violent incidents rocked St. Thomas on Monday, including a double homicide incident in the vicinity of the Charlotte Amalie High School near Estate Polyberg, as well as carjacking in Red Hook near a fruit stand, and a stabbing case that V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman said she was still gathering details on.

The double homicide occurred just after 9:00 p.m., according to Glen Dratte, the force’s public information officer, who cited preliminary information provided by St. Thomas detectives on the case. The 911 emergency call center received notification of the incident at 9:06 p.m. and immediately dispatched officers to the scene.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered two Hispanic males lifeless on the road, in a dark area near bushes, according to Mr. Dratte. Emergency medical technicians later confirmed that there were no vital signs of life in any of the victims, and they were pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel.

Police did not release further information on the matter, including the victims’ names, as the investigation was ongoing, according to Mr. Dratte.

Elsewhere in St. Thomas on Monday, officers interviewed the victim of a carjacking incident that occurred in the vicinity of Red Hook. The victim stated that as he was walking in the area of Red Hook near the fruit stand, a masked male came running towards him with a gun pointed in his direction.

The victim further explained that the male suspect ordered him to get into his vehicle, and with gun pointed in the victim’s face, demanded that the victim drive to his residence, where the suspect took jewelry, the victim’s wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash, according Ms. Freeman.

The carjacking is currently under investigation, Ms. Freeman said, and police are asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect, to contact the V.I.P.D. at (340) 774-2211, or Criminal Investigation Bureau (340)714-9807. You can also contact Crime Stoppers, where you tip may result in thousands of dollars in reward money to you.

On the stabbing incident that also occurred on Monday, Ms. Freeman said a release with pertinent details would be forthcoming today.
