Treston Stephens of St. Thomas was shot multiple times on Sunday at about 11: 21 p.m. in the Bergs Home Housing Community. However, a friend was able to pull Stephens away from the onslaught of gunfire, saving his life, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced Monday.
According to Jackson, Stephens had been sitting on the porch of a friend he was visiting when he noticed a dark-colored vehicle driving in the wrong direction headed toward the building where he was located. As gunfire broke out from the passenger side window of the vehicle, several shots hit his body and he slumped to the floor. The friend Stephens was visiting dragged him into the apartment, preventing Stephens from being shot any further.
Stephens was transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment of a fractured femur caused by gunshots to his right thigh and buttocks. In his statement to officers, Stephens said he was not familiar with the vehicle or the individual who shot him.
Detectives with the Investigation Unit are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at (800) 222-8477.
