ST. JOHN — A woman was viciously raped in Cruz Bay by an unknown assailant who used a gun to subdue his victim, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced late Tuesday.
According to Mr. Dratte, at about 6:45 p.m. on Friday, February 3, police officers traveled to Myrah Keating Smith Clinic where the victim was being treated to investigate the incident.
Upon officers’ arrival to the clinic, contact was made with the rape victim, who stated that on Thursday, February 2, at about 11:30 p.m., she was walking to her vehicle which was parked in the gravel parking lot across from the tennis court, when the incident occurred.
While she was still walking to her car, a male suspect came from behind, held a gun to her head and threatened to shoot her if she failed to obey his instructions, according to Mr. Dratte. The victim said the suspect pushed her to the ground, raped her and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Police only reported the incident to media on Tuesday, even as officers continue to search for a rapist that has been violating women in St. Thomas. Police even released a sketch of the potential serial rapist in hopes that he may be identified by community members. The force did not say whether they believed that this latest incident was related to the ongoing rape crimes in St. Thomas.
The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with knowledge of this incident or others to call the VIPD at 340-774-2211, 911 or the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-714-9807. You can also remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477, where you tip may lead to a payday.
