Man Wanted For Murder In USVI Arrested In North Carolina

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / February 16, 2017

ST. THOMAS — A man police say was wanted in connection with a 2014 murder here, was arrested in North Carolina and extradited back to the territory, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced this morning.

The suspect, named Carlos Norman, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment, first-degree assault, and aiding abetting, Ms. Freeman said. He was serving an unrelated prison sentence in the North Carolina Federal Correctional Institute, and was extradited back to St. Thomas based on a warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.

The warrant stems from a 2014 homicide incident outside the former Blitz Nightclub, that left 22-year-old  Shacoi Benjamin dead, according to Ms. Freeman.

Mr. Norman has been detained pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
