ST. CROIX — Police made multiple arrests this weekend, among them a man who had failed to report multiple illegal items in his possession, and another for assaulting his girlfriend, who he believed was cheating, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte.
According to police, at about 11:21 p.m. on Monday, 26-year-old Troy A. Somme Jr., above right, was arrested for failure to report a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of ammunition. Mr. Somme was pulled over while officers were conducting traffic stop initiative “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”, an Office of Highway Safety effort, in the vicinity of Tides Village in Christiansted.
A Consortium reporter passing in the area saw Mr. Somme, who was also found to be in possession of $2,900, sitting on the ground while handcuffed, with multiple police vehicles in the area.
Mr. Somme was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing, according to Mr. Dratte.
Elsewhere on St. Croix, a female victim reported on Sunday that she had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, who accused her of cheating on him.
The female victim said an argument ensued, and her ex-lover, 18-year-old Kevon Benjamin, above left, placed his hand around her throat, punched her in the face and damaged her cellphone, according to Mr. Dratte.
Mr. Benjamin was arrested and charged second-degree assault, and was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
