Talk Of Collapsed Roof At Elena Christian Is false, D.O.E. Says, Alfredo Andrews Resumes Today

Community Center / Education / News / Virgin Islands / March 9, 2017

ST. CROIX — A rumor that circulated Wednesday on social media and on some broadcast media outlets of a roof collapse at Elena Christian Jr. High School due to heavy overnight winds on Tuesday was false, according to the Department of Education.

D.O.E. said Elena Christian remained in full session on March 8 and there was no damage to the school’s facilities.

Meanwhile, Alfredo Andrews’ classes were dismissed early on Wednesday morning due to the heavy winds that affected areas of the school, according to D.O.E. Alfredo Andrews will resume classes today.

According to D.O.E., high winds overnight on Tuesday blew leaves and particles into ducts that affected the ventilation system in the school’s kitchen and cafeteria. The ducts have been cleaned and sealed. A cleaning contractor was also called into the school to thoroughly disinfect the affected areas in the cafeteria and kitchen.

D.O.E, stressed that there has been no roof collapse at Alfredo Andrews or any other public school in the territory.
