Shooting Incident Occurs Near Alfredo Andrews School

ST. CROIX — A shooting incident occurred at a housing community near the Alfredo Andrews Elementary School, above, Department of Education Director of Public Relations, Cynthia Graham confirmed to The Consortium late Saturday.

According to Ms. Graham, the Virgin Islands Police Department confirmed that the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, which immediately prompted officials to place the school on lockdown for one hour beginning at about 1:45 p.m.

The incident did not take place on school grounds; nor did it involve anyone at the school, Ms. Graham said. Students and staff were unharmed and all were accounted for.

School buses arrived at the school at 3:00 p.m. and safely transported students to their regular drop-off locations. The VIPD continues to investigate the incident.
