UVI’s Voices of Praise Choir To Host Annual Spring Concert Titled ‘When The Praises Go Up’ Sunday

News / Virgin Islands / March 25, 2017

ST. CROIX — The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Voices of Inspiration Community Choir announced on Friday its spring concert entitled “When The Praise Go Up”. The event takes place on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. at the James C. Savage Theater, located at the former Good Hope School. Tickets costs $5 for children, $10 adults and $10 for UVI students. There are also special rates available for groups of 10 or more people.

The choir is a student-oriented organization that was formed on the UVI Albert A. Sheen Campus in 2012. As a student organization, the nonprofit said its goal is to create a nurturing environment that allows its members to harness their talents, expand their knowledge, and augment their interpersonal communication and team working skills through music.

The choir says it offers an alternative activity on the Albert A. Sheen Campus that has enhanced the college experience for many students. As it emerges out of its infancy stage and becomes better adept at meeting its members’ needs, the choir sees UVI and the St. Croix community as the long-standing beneficiaries.

The choir says its has accomplished many feats, including the task of making a recording of the Alma-Ata of UVI. Propelled by its leadership team and dedicated cadre of members, the choir completed the task within a few months of being formed. The choir has also performed at several official UVI functions, including new student orientation and graduation.

But perhaps the group’s greatest accomplishment to date, is the production and execution of its spring concert, dubbed “A Musical Journey Through Time”. This memorable concert was performed at the Albert A. Sheen Campus, Reichhold Center for the Arts and on the island of St. Kitts.

In producing its latest event, the choir said it harnesses the talents of former, current and potential stakeholders of UVI. During its performances, you will hear the harmonious voices of current UVI students, UVI staff members, UVI alumni, members of the general community, and most importantly its high school members. The diversity of the choir’s membership has been described by the group as a blessing. “We truly hope that this diversity inspires each of us to realize that if we put aside our differences and accept our diversity how wonderful a team we can be,” reads the release.
