‘King Of The Wing’ Donates Over $60,000 To Junior Achievement Of The Virgin Islands

ST. THOMAS — The check presentation ceremony for the eighth annual King of the Wing contest (K.O.W.) was held on Wednesday morning at the Charles W. Turnbull Regional Library on St. Thomas, where the event’s organizers — Alpine Securities, USVI and White Bay Group — presented a check of $60,994.56 to Junior Achievement of the Virgin Islands (J.A.V.I.). This year’s K.O.W. event which was held on June 10.

Sponsored by Corona and Captain Morgan, distributed by Bellows International and produced by Alpine Securities and White Bay Group, K.O.W. entered its 8th year with another successful event, according to a release issued today.

The contest took place on the shores of Magens Bay beach in St. Thomas on June 10. Nearly 40 teams consisting of the top local restaurants, businesses, organizations and chicken wing connoisseurs set up their grills and cooking stations starting from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. in order to cook up mouthwatering chicken wings, in their attempt to wow the over 5,000 attendees and claim bragging rights for the best tasting wings on the island, according to the release.

Event sponsors Corona and Captain Morgan provided beverages and support while St. Thomas’ own R. City delighted the crowd with an energy packed performance. Internationally renowned DJ JSmoke and DJ Dhundee, kept the energy and appetites up with their signature blend of party jams and well known hits. The celebrity judges, R. City and Sports Illustrated Super Model, Hannah Ferguson, worked together with the rest of the judging panel to choose the winners of the King of the Wing, according to the release.

In addition to being one of the island’s most celebrated and anticipated family-friendly culinary and community event, King of the Wing serves as a crucial fundraising platform for select local charities.

All proceeds from this year’s event were donated J.A.V.I., a 501(c)3 recognized organization. J.A.V.I. is dedicated to teaching young people in the Virgin Islands about financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. The mission of JAVI is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in today’s global economy.
