ST. THOMAS — A woman from Texas who recently traveled to Puerto Rico and met a man residing on St. Thomas while on her trip to PR, told police that the man convinced her to move to St. Thomas with him, where they both would reside in his home.
But the plan, she said, went amiss after she arrived on St. Thomas, as the man wound up raping her several times, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced on Monday.
According to Ms. Freeman, citing a police report, on Sunday at about 1:14 p.m., the 911 emergency call center received notification of an incident that had occurred at Bolongo, and immediately dispatched officers to the area.
Upon officers’ arrival to the scene, contact was made with the victim, who stated that she met the suspect in Puerto Rico, where he convinced her to come live with him at his residence in St. Thomas. She said that after arriving to the island, the suspect began initiating sexual intercourse with her on the very first day. She further stated that the suspect held her down on the bed on several occassions, forced himself on top of her and raped her.
The victim also told police that she attempted to vacate the residence. However, the suspect grabbed her by the throat and kept pushing her — almost throwing her over the embankment. He then took her luggage and threw it down the driveway, at which point she called the 911 emergency call center to remove her from the residence, according to Ms. Freeman.
The victim concluded by stating that she had no money to purchase a ticket to return to Texas.
After the victim was interviewed by police, the Victims Advocate and an employee of the Family Resource Center were notified of the incident. Shortly after, the victim was transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau continue to investigate the occurrence, according to Ms. Freeman.
