ST. CROIX — The V.I.P.D. on Friday arrested a man who allegedly strangled a woman while attempting to sexually assault her, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Sunday.
According to Mr. Dratte, on Friday at 11:56 a.m., police officers were dispatched to a residence in Old Fredensborg to investigate an attempted sexual assault incident.
Upon arrival to the scene, officers made contact with the victim, who stated that the suspect, identified by police as 22-year-old Leroy Simon, Jr., grabbed her by the hair, dragged her into an abandon house across from her residence, threw her on the ground and began strangling her.
The victim told police that she fought herself free, however, Mr. Simon managed to grab her again and continued strangling her. The victim continued her struggle to free herself from the suspect, which she eventually managed to do, and ran into her residence.
Mr. Simon fled the victim’s residence, but he was later arrested in Estate Glynn, according to Mr. Dratte.
He was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and kidnapping, according to police.
Unable to make bail of $100,000, Mr. Simon was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
