ST. CROIX — The St. Patrick’s School is hosting a two-day bazaar on Friday and Saturday from 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. on the school grounds. Dubbed the St. Patrick Bazaar — A Blast from the Past, the event has been a long standing part of tradition for the town of Frederiksted, where people come together to enjoy good food, games, camaraderie and a chance to support the school.
This weekend’s event is being hosted as part of the Centennial commemoration year, said Adrienne L. Williams, president of the St. Patrick’s School Homeschool Association.
“We thought that it was fitting to continue the tradition of the bazaar, which has been an event that people have looked forward to,” she said. “If you speak to many generations in our community, they can always refer to wonderful stories about the St. Patrick’s School bazaar.”
She said each night has been themed with VI history. The first night, titled “History of the steel pan on our V.I. Culture,” recognizes the impact of steelpan on the USVI. The steelpan theme is especially appropriate, Ms. Williams said, since the school’s steel pan orchestra is having a banner year. On Tuesday, they head to the Virginia International Panfest, and they were asked to participate in Department of Tourism video ads highlighting the territory, according to Ms. Williams.
A ceremony honoring the Trailblazers, Hillary “Baga” Rezende and Noel C. Wynter and up and coming steel pan ambassadors, Kevin Williams, Jr. and Guy Chastanet will highlight the night, according to Ms. Williams. Music will be provided by the St. Patrick’s School Steelpan Orchestra.
The second night will showcase, “Quadrille – The People’s Dance”, where a presenter will provide the history of the dance, demonstration of various dance steps and the relevance of the attire. It will culminate with a grand quadrille dance beginning at 8:00 p.m., featuring Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights along with the Ay Ay Cultural Dancers.
DJ Hatma, DJ Saigon and FAO Band will provide entertainment throughout the two-day event along with games like Bingo, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Spin the Wheel, Ring Toss, Grab Bag, Jail Time and other fun activities throughout the night. Entrance fee is $4 for Adults and $2 for Children.
The bazaar is a major fundraising event that supports the school and its initiatives. For more information, call (340) 643-1710, (340) 513-2524 or (340) 772-5052.
