The Department of Human Services said on Monday that it continues to offer funds through its Office of Childcare and Regulatory Services, to defray costs associated with the fees for summer camps.
“We remain supportive of families and parents in our determination that children’s summer experiences are as worthy as that in school. We advocate for structured and safe summer camps that offer a variety of activities to include tutorial and literacy, sporting, personal and group development, vocational skills, and cultural engagement,” said Felicia Blyden, D.H.S. commissioner.
D.H.S. says it offers subsidies to parents every summer who meet the eligibility criteria to participate in the program. Applicants must be working at least 30 hours weekly, enrolled in school or a training program, and the children must be between three to twelve years old — or special needs children until 18 years old.
Applications will be available for summer camp assistance at the Subsidy, Resource and Referral Program (formerly Block Grant) on St. Croix and St. Thomas on Monday, June 5, from 8:00 a.m. until the slots are filled, according to D.H.S. Interested St. John residents can fill applications at D.H.S.’ Multipurpose Center on Wednesday, June 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
