ST. CROIX — An elderly woman was assaulted, tied to a chair and robbed in her own home late Wednesday night, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Thursday.
According to Mr. Dratte, on Thursday at approximately 12:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to investigate a possible home invasion at Lowry Hill in Christiansted.
Upon officers arrival to the scene, contact was made with an elderly woman, who stated that on Wednesday at around 10:30 p.m., she decided to go into her bedroom to get some rest, when two black male individuals appeared from somewhere in the bedroom, and started pressing her down onto the mattress, and tied her hands with an electrical cord.
The individuals attempted to sexually assault the old woman, however, after a brief struggle they stopped, and instead started demanding money. The victim told the suspects that she had no money, which prompted them to start plundering the house in search of valuable items. After stealing the victim’s personal goods, the suspects left the house. The victim refused treatment, according to Mr. Dratte.
Later that evening, a neighbor was conducting a routine check of the property, heard the victim calling out for help, and moved to untie her and immediately called 911.
The VIPD’s forensic team along with the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) processed and canvassed the scene, according to Mr. Dratte. The incident is under investigation by the CIB.
The VIPD is asking the community to continue assisting in making arrests and keeping neighborhoods safe. Call 340-778-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI here.
