Shakirah S. Ritter, 24, will represent the U.S. Virgin Islands as a delegate in the 56th Annual Jaycees Queen Show, in St. John’s Antigua on July 30, according to a release issued Monday. Ms. Ritter was coronated as Miss US Virgin Islands Caribbean Queen 2016 by Virgin Islands Regal Events, Inc., who annually designate an ambassadress to represent the territory in some of the grandest pageants in the Caribbean region.
Ms. Ritter is a native of St. Croix and an alumna of the University of the Virgin Islands. She aspires to establish her own organization, “The Dream Foundation,” to inspire younger Virgin Islanders to view each challenge they may face as an opportunity for growth and character building, as well as teach the importance to always dream “BIG,” according to the release.
She maintains a freelance modeling career within the territory and on the U.S. mainland, appearing in various productions such as St. Croix Style and VI Fashion Week. No stranger to pageantry, Ms. Ritter have participated in various pageants, such as Miss St. Croix Festival Queen, and represented the U.S. Virgin Islands at the National Miss High School America Pageant in San Antonio, Texas in 2010.
Ms. Ritter will compete against 14 other women from across the Caribbean for the coveted Miss Jaycees International Queen crown. This year’s theme is “Inspiring Humanity to Protect Our Planet: Nature’s Beauties – A Celebration of the Environment”. The winner takes away a cash prize of $5,500, jewelry, a cruise for two, and more. The USVI last captured the title in 1994 and Ms. Ritter hopes to change that and bring home the crown for the territory’s Centennial year. She departs for the competition on July 26.
